Then @TheWizard if we going to have a base character why not leave it as a base? rather than choose a specific mage/warlock/rogue etc and as you add the specialties that in turn marks your path so for instance you have a base female choose to stack out with int/dex so put you on path to archer(ranged)then you choose to spend skill/xp on magic so now your going down the mage warlock so maybe it lead to druid then you choose to add heavy armor so now your going to move a lot slower not be able to sneak/hide or use stealth but you get advantages from the heavy armor and you'd be a ? as a side note would your once selected skill be permanent and as you choose your path along the tree your choices you make would block you from other options or can you have access to all but at a very high cost lvl other option?
I like the adaptability and diversity of a rogue. You could have 2 base classes as a rogue and each be completely different. For example, one rogue could be a court diplomat, well versed in etiquette and diplomacy, while another could be a street thief and pickpocket who makes a living robbing unsuspecting merchants. These are just a couple examples and there are many other things that could be done with the base class.
@helpicantfly, yeah I like that, though we're designing for both PvP and PvE and the visual tell of an opponent's class currently helps with making PvP compelling ("oh, I'm up against a Mage so I need to do this or that against him"). There is already a ton of specialization flexibility baked in, which will be more clear when i outline the Class system for you (almost there!), but you'll have TONS of choices...
Oh, and right now, the thinking is that you can easily respec.
@drysdale, glad youre thinking this way, because the idea here is that you will choose a Rogue at the beginning, and he looks and acts like every other Rogue, but your specialization choices will forge you into a very specific thing or a mixture of specialties.
@thewizard i understand what your saying. but would that be the case because im a ranged base unit but go down the paladin route of options so now when you face me your thinking of setting up to play a ranged unit but infact your be playing a paladin.at least with the base unit it could change as you make your choices.just thoughts.
Warrior I love every class. But if had to choose one, it would be it, because i love to be in the middle of the fights, decide where the front will go, get some love/healing on me and to harass/disrupt/taunt the opposing team while doing some aoe damage.
I'm a fan of the anti-paladin usually. Life stealing and damage over time to add it all up. It'll be cool to see different build types and customization. Like Bards, Warlocks, ect.
Oh yes, @Hollow, plan on those. Initially, we'll launch with Warrior, Mage and Rogue (and 3 specializations each to mix and match) and then comes the rest of the usual suspects-- with some twists on them, of course...
I'm seeing a lot of rogues. We here at team Paladin are going to have to keep a close watch on the valuables I see.
Yes, I agree whole-heartily....rogues are...well..thievish and tend to use us Paladin's charisma against us allowing us to think we are winning over another's trust and/or admiration..cuz..who wouldn't?! Then..bam..you wake up with only a chest plate and your underwear..and less sometimes.
I could never get into playing a rogue in any game, WoW..any MMO in general..rogues just seemed like those guys on the outskirts of the team..not always needed..and..cranky. Paladin's...where its AT, usually because they were able to play one of my two favorite roles which have always been Tank or Healer or at least offtank/support heals.
And also for the simple fact that you never really need to think about alignment...you know you are always gonna do a bit of the SMITING OF EVIL. Paladins always need to have some sort of healing and protection of self (of course) and sometimes more importantly others...but they also need...SMITE...and/or some sort of pillar of light they can cast down upon their foes in a column of some sort.
I'm actually giving a demo this week with the pantless Mayor here. I had to record the video off the game while pants weren't in the game (don't ask) and now am stuck with two very intimidating and BA warriors, except-- um-- one doesn't have pants.
Healer here. From the classic Cleric in EQ to all manner of healing classes in mmo's. Raid healer tied to the tanks butt or buffbot or whatever. I'd rather be watching players hp gauges than the mobs. Being a great healer has always gotten me dragged into craziest dungeons and situations with tons of stories to tell about stupid tanks, Rangers/dps that think they can tank, and letting nuking wizzy aggro stealers die in bloody puddles for being dumb.
Honestly I can't really choose between the rouge and paladin class .... but I'm going with rouge for now as that class allows for stealth and traps ... but don't count out the paladin

I enjoy a rogue character because the very idea takes me back to The Hobbit and Bilbo becoming a master thief. I also feel like rogues organically have the option to choose whether to fight/kill or steal/sneak past a mob or quest goal.
I'm saying "preferred" here because we all like to play multiple classes in RPGs, but there's always ONE, when you only have one choice, that you tend to go with. Which is it and why? What are your favorite things about that class?
I am clearly in the minority but I love playing the healer.
