As you know, one of the main ideas behind this game is quick-and-intense PvP duels between your Character and another's. In your gaming experience, what competitive multiplayer (real-time, turn-based, or other) have been your favorites and why?
Counter Strike - Some of the best map design ever. Shooting mechanics require a high level of skill to master. When all the players on both teams are of even skill, team strategy becomes much more impactful. The gameplay encourages using your economy to help the members of your team who may be struggling.
Unreal Tournament 2004 - Fast paced, unique weapon design and multiple modes of play.
Pokemon - Deep character creation/customization. I enjoyed the research process that went into planning out your team: move sets, natures, ev/iv's, items, synergies/weaknesses. And then seeing the culmination of all that planning play out in battle is very rewarding.
Honrable Mentions: Gears of War - Weapons and executions Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 - Game modes and tactical choices Black Ops 2 - Pick 10 system
League of Legends primarily. Other than that, I tend not to play multiplayer games that much.
"Now remember kids- If you don't use environmentally friendly technology, a giant technicolour inter-dimensional ghost squid will come down from space and eat everybody."
Interesting that you two (@kjelfalconer & @Heromaster) don't get super into more of those. But no worries. This should scratch a PvP and a PvE/story itch for you (but the story will be a bit different than you're used to...)
@TheWizard From my own experience, for summoner's war you prayed to RNGesus to give you better monsters than your opponent. My sanity expired with that one a while ago.
Also, calling it pvp is pushing it. You were still against the computer. It just happened that the computer was using a team of creatures set by another player. 90% of pvp was exploiting the shoddy ai to not hit your squishies.

Book of Heroes on mobile has a really kick ass PvP system, atleast in concept, I absolutely loved it, the base mechanics of it anyways, it isn't implemented very well, but still. Balanced fights, and skills and stats that leave room for strategy and a great challenge are things I Love in PvP
The combat is very....unimpactful.., choose your ability, then an associated visual effects happens, and the abilities effect happens, damage, or heal or w/e, then your opponent does the same lol, it's fun but it doesn't really hold up after awhile lol
Got it-- I'll check that out. You know we're doing a duel-type combat scenario where we both choose our moves at the same time, but Initiative is determined by stats+roll and that's the order of move execution. More like Pokemon than "I-go-you-go."

I agree with these two. They were/are fantastic games.
I would also add Infinity Wars TCG. The unique way that combat was played out simultaneously and in a particular order made for some interesting double-think situations where you gambled that you opponent would play his cards in a certain order, to counter the expected order of your cards, so you played them in a different order, hoping they did not think of that...
I am not really a huge pvp player, but I do tend to prefer the more chess like pvp games where you have to move characters around and and attack in that form.

@TheWizard I didn't get very far after the first expansion. Of the base set I have quite a few cards. I lost a match to a guy who had donated in their kickstart campaign and so had unlimited cards (he was either also a dev or had donated a lot...) and he gave me quite a few cards after we discussed the finer points of a control deck I didn't think was possible.
I I always swear I'm gonna go back, but hearthstone is so much easier to play since I can play it on my phone. *shrugs*. If Infinity wars ever releases their mobile client I'll be all over it again though. It really is a blast to play.
Warhamer Online, Age of Wreckoning: the PvP was immense, invading/defending cities, keeps and castles. The amount of people fighting, the assault, flanking and defensing options we had to take, the organization it needed to have in order to succeed. Simply amazing. The classes weren't that balanced but I kept playing because it was just too mcuh fun and immersion!
My all time Fav. Was, hopefully will be again...WoW, lots of hours in CS, Good Ole Delta Force lol, Guild wars 2, and I am Uber excited for the PvP in EoE, PvP is one of my fav aspects of a game.

We have similar tastes, I've played me some CS and GW2 too. Never tried WoW, though I imagine I would thoroughly enjoy it!
I'd have to say that CS is probably my favorite PVP, so many fun memories from the earliest version all the way until the more recent CS:GO.

Playing valiant force or whatever it's called, like it so far, dunno if it's true pvp or you versus an ai tho, turn based, just twiddling my thumbs till beta to be honest though, wink wink
/bows low to @Kingkobbler. Thank you for your patience-- we're hustling, just need to get everything as in order as possible before we start testing with you guys...!
